Meet the Artist

Paul Valdez in front of some of his watercolor paintings

Hi, I’m paul.

"Painting is a very personal endeavor. It's all about what I feel and why it makes me feel that way and trying to get that across to the viewer. Whether painting a small 5"x7" watercolor painting, multiple panels in mixed media or a large 5'x7' oil painting I always leave a bit of my soul in each."

A Moment Caught in Time

Plein-Aire Painting on THE Great Wall of China

"Life is fragile and I want my paintings to reflect the fragility of a moment caught in time and then transposed onto my canvas. The transparency of life is my theme. Watercolors transparency and luminosity breathes life into my subjects, whether they are landscapes, still lifes or abstract forms.

My art is not just a reflection of the world as I see it but an expression of my inner landscape. It is a celebration of color, light and the delicate balance of nature. My hope is that my work resonates with others, inspiring them to see the extraordinary in the ordinary.

It's important to me that you feel a little something inside when you look at my work. Remember, a painting is not good just because it looks like something you might recognize, but because it makes you feel something in a certain way.

I am hoping that one of my paintings make you feel enough of something that you'd like to take one home.  Every piece has a story that goes with it and it would be my pleasure to share that story with you.  I always guarantee that you feel right with the purchase of one of my paintings.

I offer a 100% - 30 day money back guarantee that you will be happy with your purchase. Should that not be the case, you may return the piece or trade it in for another. Please do not hesitate to call and talk to me or you may visit me at my studio. Thanks for visiting my website."

PAUL'S ART HISTORY

Paul has studied painting with many influencial instructors beginning with the very popular and creative watercolorist Kathy Gergo from Louisiana. Perhaps the instructor who had the largest impact would be a most fabulous painter and also the well-known and incredibly gifted watercolorist Buffalo Kaplinski from Colorado whose bold color sense influenced Paul's use of vibrant color. Other talented watercolor instructors from the Denver area are Sandra Kaplan and Dennis Pendleton both teachers at the Art Students League of Denver. Paul has had the good fortune to take oil painting classes include Kim English, Molly Davis, and Michelle Torrez - all of whom are talented and well-respected in the art world.

Paul is currently taking advantage of international travel to paint watercolors on location. As you can see, much of his current inventory includes paintings from Italy, Germany, Spain, and especially France. You will also notice a tremendous influence from his Asian travels.

Most recently there has been another strong influence in the direction of Paul's art path in the form of artist Tadashi Hayakawa, a premier contemporary abstract artist from Japan. Tadashi looked at Paul's work both past and present then looked deep inside of Paul and insisted that he look toward his abstract side. You will notice that quite a few of Paul's recent work is, indeed, greatly influenced by an abstract flavor. He consider Tadashi not only one of today's premier artists but a good friend.
